For the first time ever the Treaty document has been made available to the public.  The document contains the Irish signtories names ‘as Gaeilge’ as well as Lloyd George’s (British Prime Minister), Chamberlain’s, Lord Birkenhead’s and Churchill’s.  Michael Collins famously proclaimed that he signed his death warrant by signing the Treaty.  It is a hugely significant document as the split over the Treaty led to the Irish Civil War (1922-23) and Collins’ assassination in 1922.  The Treaty and an online exhibition can be seen at treaty.nationalarchives.ie.
