Here’s some great Historical Fiction recommendations for all of you who want to channel your inner hero or heroine.  Some are available here in the library.  Don’t forget to fill out the ‘library requests’ page on this blog for books you’d like to add to our stock.


Sally Gardner has won the Carnegie Prize for her dystopian novel ‘Maggot Moon’.  It’s in the school library for you to borrow and enjoy!

The author of modern classics such as ‘The Wasp Factory’ and ‘The Crow Road’ has sadly died of cancer.  Ironically, 10 days before the publication of his novel ‘The Quarry’ which relates the story of ‘Guy’ who’s battling cancer.

Kevin Barry’s ‘City of Bohane’ has won the lucrative Impac Dublin Literary Award.  Naturally, it’s available in your local, friendly school Library!

Ms Blackman, author of the VERY popular ‘Noughts and Crosses’ series is the new Children’s Laureate in the UK.   Not only is she a great writer, but she loves to read too!  She hopes to host a website that allows you, the reader, to give your creative response to books.  So keep an eye out for it.  Learn more about Ms Blackman at this BBC link and her video interview on The Guardian Book site.
